Manufacturing, Maintenance, Repair or Reloading of Sources

Radiation Sources Operations

1. Architectural project (1/50 or 1/100 scale) within the organization where the source reloading activities will be carried out and the layout of the source reloading cell within the room, information on shielding*, all adjacent areas are shown and the following points are specified,

a) The location of the cell in the room where the source reloading operations will be carried out,

b) The type of building materials (lead, concrete, solid brick, perforated brick, etc.), thickness (cm) and density (g/cm3) of the doors, walls, floor and ceiling of the room where the source reloading cell is located and the place where the radioactive sources will be kept temporarily

c) The daily occupancy times of the room where the source reloading cell is located and the place where the radioactive sources will be kept temporarily, as well as the lower and upper floors for the purpose of use (for what purpose the lower, upper and side areas of the closed area are used, and if personnel are to be present, for what purpose)

2. Explanatory information and catalog specifying the technical features and purpose of use of the devices to be reloaded

*It should be ensured that nails, pipe holes and connection cables of electrical, ventilation, heating installations, control units and devices do not impair the integrity of the shielding.

Considering the provisions of the Regulation on the Protection of External Officials Working in Controlled Areas Against Risks That May Originate from Ionizing Radiation, published in the Official Gazette dated 18.06.2011 and numbered 27968, the authorization procedure for the Maintenance, Repair, Installation, Dismantling and Reloading License issued by the Authority has been rearranged. In this context;

  1. In case the maintenance and repair activities are carried out in the place where the devices that have been licensed to use and keep from the Authority; during the maintenance and repair services provided by the technical services, radiation protection is provided against exposure to radiation, under the responsibility of the owner of the license to use and maintain the devices (authorized person) and the person performing the maintenance and repair (contractor), and if necessary, the use of dosimeter and additional protective equipment within the framework of the provisions of the fifth article of the Regulation, the Authority has terminated the license regulation practice for organizations that perform maintenance, repair, installation, dismantling and reloading.                                                                                                                                                                 When the validity period of the licenses for maintenance, repair, installation, dismantling and reloading previously obtained within this scope expires, the license period will not be extended and new licenses will not be issued.
  2. In case the manufacturing or maintenance and repair activities of the devices are carried out in factories, workshops, workshops and similar places; the Authority will continue to issue licenses to the organizations that carry out this process for the provision of radiation protection during the manufacturing or maintenance and repair of these devices and the reloading processes. However, the said license is for the provision of radiation protection and cannot be used as a technical service competence/qualification certificate.

1. The person* who will be responsible for radiation protection officer within the organization with a science or engineering diploma

a) A copy of the exam success certificate** on radiation protection,

b) In case of carrying out activities within the scope of manufacturing, maintenance, repair or source reloading activities, a copy of the exam success certificate**  on radiation protection in the transportation of radioactive materials,

3. Radiation Protection Program

4. Two (2) sketches showing the location of the facility, workshop or workshops where manufacturing, maintenance and repair activities will be carried out and the purpose of the adjacent areas (bottom, top and side),

5. Two (2) approved architectural projects in 1/100 scale prepared according to the Project Shielding Conformity Report*** for the facility, workshop or workshops where source reloading activities will be carried out,

6. Detailed information on the site plan of the place where the device/resources will be temporarily held for the manufacture, maintenance, repair or source change activities of devices containing closed radioactive sources, and the temporary holding place and how to ensure the safety of the radioactive sources in it,

7. A copy of the dangerous goods transport driver professional qualification certificate (SRC5) for transporting Class 7 materials or ADR certificate for the transport of radioactive material and a copy of the certificate of participation in the training on radiation protection in the transport of radioactive material for all vehicle drivers who will transport devices containing radioactive source / source,
