Authorization of Radioactive Waste Facilities

Radiation Protection Procedures

Radioactive waste facilities, the eighth paragraph of Article 4 and the first paragraph of Article 6 of the Nuclear Regulation Law published in the Official Gazette dated 05/03/2022 and numbered 7381, and subparagraph (c) of the first paragraph of Article 4 and subparagraph (b) of the first paragraph of Article 5 of the Presidential Decree No. 95 on the Organization and Duties of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority in accordance with;

• Site approval of the facility,

• Construction permit of the facility,

• Commissioning permit of the facility,

• Operation license of the facility,

• Decommissioning permit of the facility,

• Closure permit of the facility

subject.

Permission from the Nuclear Regulatory Authority is required to make changes concerning safety and security at the facility.

Radioactive waste facilities will be authorized in accordance with the Regulation on Authorizations and Safety Principles for Radioactive Waste Facilities.

• Çekmece Radioactive Waste Processing and Storage Facility

The visa of the Low Level Radioactive Management Unit located in İstanbul / Küçük Çekmece, licensed by the abolished TAEK within the scope of temporary storage of radioactive sources, processing and temporary storage of radioactive wastes in liquid/solid form, within TENMAK, expires on 18/03/2023. If the visa expires in accordance with the license conditions, the license will lose its validity. The Low Level Radioactive Management Unit is required to be licensed as a radioactive waste facility in accordance with Law No. 7381 after the visa period expires. Licensing will mainly be done in accordance with the "Regulation on Authorizations and Safety Principles in Radioactive Waste Facilities" dated 22/07/2022 and numbered 31889.
